The Action Project
Youth can make a difference!
Hello Everyone,
My name is Alanna Fernandes and I would like to introduce you to a new and exciting opportunity for youth and their communities. Townshippers’ Association has launched The Action Project, an initiative that aims to foster community action by English-speaking youth throughout the Eastern Townships.
We, at Townshippers’ Association, believe that many young people have an untapped passion for contributing to their communities. If their energies found expression and their skills were developed, this generation could become a powerful lever to change the cycle of community decline for English-speakers into one of community development.
The Action project will permit youth to develop various skills, build confidence, and contribute to and sustain positive bonds with their localities. The hope is to work together to ensure that the Eastern Townships English-speaking community has youth who are more engaged in community development, and in the process, grow both as individuals and as community developers. This growth could include development of specific skills, leadership and teamwork ability. Over the long-term, this experience will permit them to improve their employment and income levels and help strengthen the vitality and population level of the Townships English-speaking community as a whole.
You are invited to contact me if you (or a group you are a part of) have interest in the numerous and diverse possibilities that could take place through The Action Project. These might include:
· producing a ‘zine or community newsletter
· painting a public mural
· volunteering for a community organization (ex: children’s, senior’s, hospital, etc.)
· organizing an ecological project (ex: starting a community garden, cleaning up a lake, etc.)
· cooking and serving (a) community meal/s
· identifying a problem in the local community and figuring out a solution.
As the Action Project Coordinator I will be available to work with the staff (of a particular youth organization) and youth while providing resources to support your chosen initiatives. The type of resources depends on the projects you choose to carry out: Examples include: guiding youth with new ideas and helping them make realistic choices; creating and carrying out a plan of action; providing educational and practical workshops; providing monetary help; advertising initiatives; and connecting the youth to the immediate resources in their community and the broader resources in the Townships and Quebec; and more.
Hope to meet you soon!
