John Cameron was one of the four award recipients at the third annual Townships Leaders of Tomorrow Awards ceremony. I have gotten to know John Cameron well, as we have worked together at Theatre Lac Brome Arts Knowlton. I was the lighting operator and he ran the soundboard for community theatre musicals. John has a great attitude and I was always impressed by his ability to hold down a job at Knowlton Packaging as well as follow his career in audio technology, but until I sat down and read the testimonials written about John in the Leaders of Tomorrow application letters this year I had no idea how much he is appreciated by this community. I would like to share with you some of the comments:
“John demonstrated patience, complete understanding of the complex equipment that he was using and above all he demonstrated what he was doing.” Composer, Donald Patriquin.
“John is proof that it is possible for young people to stay in the Townships and be able to create a business and life right here at home” LAST CHANCE (the band).
“John could easily take his skills to Montreal or Toronto where they are easily bankable, but he has chosen to remain rooted in the Townships. He is a concrete example of someone who has chosen to stay close to his roots and has simultaneously found a way to make a living by applying his intelligence and work skills. He is the best soundman in the region”, Caroline Kehne
“John is ambitious to realize his personal potential to the fullest, but would prefer to do it, even at financial sacrifice, in the home environment. John’s expertise is helping to put the Eastern Townships on North America’s musical map!”
Robert Hill PhD
Unanimously, the message was: “let’s keep him here”! This summer, John has become a proud father. His friends and clients are very happy he has made the decision to start a family here and we wish him all the best.
