A recent graduate of the New Horizons Adult Education Centre, Jessica Coleman greatly impressed both the staff and students of her school, so much so that her nominator, Megan MacLean, called her “a 19-year old wonder”.
Jessica was extremely involved during her time at New Horizons: she expertly managed the school’s canteen, planned student events and organized numerous fundraisers. She was also a member of the school’s governing board, where she discussed relevant issues with other board members with candor and insight.
Although Jessica's strong work ethic and willingness to get involved in all kinds of activities are clear proof of her strong leadership qualities, Jessica's other nominator, Jan Draper, told us that Jessica always remains humble, is even at times self-effacing, preferring to give the credit for many of her accomplishments to her teachers and peers instead of taking the credit for herself.
After working part-time in a seniors’ residence, Jessica has decided to pursue studies in a care-giving field. The outstanding leadership qualities she has demonstrated in the past few years are a sure sign that she will take on this new challenge with great enthusiasm and dedication.
