As is true for Quebecers of all ages, English-speaking people in the Townships face the challenge of finding work. For some, language is a barrier; for others, a major hindrance is a lack of education. However, with so many positive developments in both the French and the English communities in the region, now is the perfect time to embrace a new sense of progress.

KPMG, an international business advisory group, ranked Sherbrooke as the most favourable region in which to invest and start a new business for 2004. In recent years, innovative new enterprises have emerged in the region, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, software development, and information technology companies. Many of these companies have attracted expertise from elsewhere in Canada and around the world, including many English-speaking people – a veritable “brain gain” for the Eastern Townships.
According to Job Outlook, a survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers in the U.S., the Top 10 places, where employers find new employees (in reverse order), are as follows:
