Lynn Rothney, Cookshire-Eaton
Lynn Rothney of Cookshire-Eaton, age 31, was born and raised in the Townships. He overcame many obstacles in order to settle in this area. His hard work paid off when, in August 2006, he realized one of his life’s goals by opening his own garage in Birchton, the Centre de l’auto Rothney. He not only fulfilled his dream, he has also been a great asset to the community, providing many of the citizens of Birchton and surrounding areas with quality car repair services. Megan McLean, one of Lynn’s nominators, wrote that “as a habitual owner of older cars I have come to depend on Lynn for his service and counsel on anything mechanical. He has built a reputation for honesty and dependability.” Mr. Douglas Gilliam, Lynn’s other nominator, wrote that Lynn was also instrumental in helping to save the park in Birchton. When he heard that the Cookshire-Eaton town council wanted to dismantle the park, he contacted his neighbours and organized a petition to stop them. As a result, the town still has a park and Lynn is now part of a new committee that has as its mission to preserve, restructure and promote the park.
