The Mansonville SADD Youth Board of Directors, 2008
Sponsored by the Missisquoi North Volunteer Centre, the Mansonville SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Youth Board of Directors has been in operation for more than twenty years and is still going strong! This year’s Board is formed of eight hard-working and devoted teenagers: Dominica Badham, Tom Hastings, Elizabeth Jersey, Kristi-Ann Bouchard, Jody Veilleux, Mariah Patch, Jeremy Hamilton and Tasha Chubby. Among their many endeavours, these young people organize monthly dances, coffee houses, open mike musical evenings, and information and awareness sessions with the local police, doctors and CLSC. They also donate to and support the local elementary schools and other groups. On top of all this community involvement, the SADD group members participate in training sessions intended to help them become better leaders. Topics include public speaking and how to deal with the press.
Amanda Barnett, a member of the Former Youth Involvement group and one of the SADD group’s nominators, wrote that this year’s small group of eight has had to work extra hard to make up for missing participants - normally the SADD group has 10 to 15 members. Through all of their hard work and dedication, Amanda wrote, “the group members send a positive message to Mansonville and surrounding communities that lending a helping hand and doing good for the others is very much needed in today’s world.”
