**2 Internships – one internship of 4 months and the other is 6 months
Mostly Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary.
DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION :
The Hamlet Oasis of Dunham was born from the meeting of various agencies in the region. The site is administered by the agency Les Jardins de la Terre. It is developed by and for young people aged 5 to 35 who make this place a stimulating environment of experimentation and bilingual life. Its aim is to socially and professionally reintegrate young people in need through the agro-ecology, environmental awareness and active participation and citizenship.
It also offers community groups, schools and families the opportunity to rent its buildings at an affordable price to come and bond with nature, enjoy the area and learn more about our environment and conservation.
POSITION DESCRIPTION :
The candidate will participate in the establishment and maintenance of a vegetable
production and organic greenhouse production. He or she will animate educational
activities on ecological and agricultural topics for youth in training at the organization
and/or for different groups of visitors. (Gardening and farming, composting, proper
cultural practices, alternatives to pesticides and environmental protection.) The
candidate will also co-manage the production of vegetables which will be then be sold
in a dozen baskets of vegetables / fine herbs (Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
bio baskets). The candidate will also help maintain the site.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Participate in technical design and development of the garden;
• Working in a greenhouse: planting, transplanting, growth, plant protection, etc..
• Work in the field: culture and preparation of CSA baskets: seeding, planting, tillage,
green manure, crop harvesting.
• Participate actively in the establishment and maintenance of the garden and
composting system
• Participate in the research and training component of the farm "the work tray” 2010
(Animation for youth employability 16-30 years) by teaming up with the person in
charge.
• Perform other related duties in connection with the organic fruit and vegetable
production;
• Perform other related duties for the maintenance of plants and trees on the site of
Hamlet.
• Participate in team meetings.
REQUIREMENTS :
Be passionate about organic farming;
Know alternatives to chemical inputs
Strong interest in animation and environmental awareness;
creativity, interpersonal skills, resourcefulness and flexibility;
Good physical condition;
Preference for teamwork.
Studying in a program linked with the job (agriculture, horticulture and environment),
etc..)
The candidates could even be unilingual anglophones.
