Ms. Sheila Quinn,
Richmond
In the past, Sheila Quinn has been a resource person for the United Church Youth Forum. She is now coordinator of the Youth Forum where she volunteers her time to work with a group of young people to help them learn leadership and develop skills to organize and participate in activities for other youth.
Ms. Victoria Moulton, one of Sheila's nominators, tells us that she has 'known Sheila since she was a young student in Richmond and realized that she had and still has much energy, care and love for her home town of Richmond, her family and young people'.
Ms. Helen Johnston, Sheila's second nominator, says that 'Sheila lives by the philosophy that life's challenges are really opportunities in disguise. (...) She uses this to foster hope and purpose within the lives of the young people she works with. Sheila balances marriage, children, home, career and community with a sense of humour and a positive attitude'. For all these reasons, it is not difficult to see why Sheila leaves her mark on everything she participates in.
When asked about her win, Sheila had this to say:
'We are so lucky. The Townships is a place of opportunity and support, with an artist's heart. There is always a way to have fun, and generally make ends meet. Ripe with terrific people and enthusiasm for a simple and full way of life, this is where I want to be. I'm honoured to be a recipient of the Townshippers Leaders of Tomorrow award, especially considering how many people volunteer their time and energy in our area. I was extremely proud to be nominated, and really surprised to win. A big thank you goes out to Sandra Roberts, Victoria Moulton and Helen Johnston for their contributions in making this happen for me. I'd recommend that everyone find a way to give back to their communities - I assure you, when you find the right place to devote your time, you'll get back as much as you give...and then some. Deep gratitude to the Youth Forum Community for instilling in me the desire to be myself, and teaching me how to truly share. With every gathering I am stronger, more capable. I am blessed'.
Shalom my friends...
Congratulations Sheila!
