Mr. Devanand Sukhdeo, Sherbrooke
At Champlain Regional College in Lennoxville, Devanand is extremely involved. He is a member of the Champlain Students' Association, the Bishop's/Champlain Amnesty International Club, and the Bishop's/Champlain Refugee-Student Sponsorship Committee. Mary Purkey says that 'in spite of the fact that he is clearly precocious intellectually, (Devanand) is very easy to be with, has a great sense of humor about himself (and other things) and works very well in a team of peers'.
Devanand represented Champlain at the National Physics Olympiad in his first year of college. He has also been involved with the McGill Retention Project for the Estrie region of Quebec, which seeks to ensure that English-speaking people in Quebec have equitable access, in their own language, to the full range of health and social services.
Ms. Anabel Piñero tells us that Devanand 'embodies all of the qualities you seek to celebrate. (He) has had a great positive impact on Champlain and the Eastern Townships in general, by being a model of success, passion and commitment to his school and his region'.
Congratulations Devanand!
